This page is about driving tips.
Golf driving tip 1. Practice, practice, practice. We all like
to get out there and play the game, but at least 70% of the time we spend should
be on the range and on and around the practice greens.
Golf driving tip 2. Learn to hit a fade and a draw with your tee shot.
This will let you "steer" the ball away from one side if the fairway or the
other. To hit a fade, set up with a weak grip, shoulders level, head even with
the club, and ball even with your forward heel. Then hold the club face "open"
(toe trailing the heel) through impact. To hit a draw, set up with a strong
grip, front shoulder higher than back shoulder, head behind the club, and ball
inside your forward foot. Then rotate your arms through impact.
Golf driving tip 3. Know where NOT to hit the ball. When you set up on
the tee box, look at the fairway and see where the worst trouble is. Then play a
shot that will keep you away from that trouble. If there is trouble on both
sides, consider using the club that you can control the best even if it is not
the longest that you have.
Golf driving tip 4. Use a full shoulder turn to increase your power.
On the backswing, your weight should be on your back foot and your forward
shoulder should be at or behind the ball. As you swing, your weight should shift
forward and your shoulders should do a 180 degree rotation so that your rear
shoulder winds up where your forward shoulder began.
Golf driving tip 5. Tee the ball high and swing up with your driver.
With today's larger drivers, you need to tee the ball higher and have an upward
angle on your swing to get the right launch angle.
